Therese ‘Terry’ Pounds (Joiner): 1927-2024

Therese “Terry” Pounds (Joiner), 97, of Montclair, NJ died peacefully surrounded by family at Mountainside Hospital on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, Terry was born a ‘survivor,’ having lost her mother who died soon after her birth in 1927 in New York City. She subsequently lived all over the world as a self-described “army brat” after her father, Colonel Talley Dosier Joiner, remarried and reclaimed “his little Therese” from her aunts who raised her until she was six. After graduating from Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ, Terry briefly attended college at Trinity, DC, then decided to go to Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in NJ. The skills she learned there served her well at her first secretarial jobs in Manhattan, then later at Montclair Kimberly Academy in Montclair where she worked for almost twenty years in the Office of External Affairs. She was proud of her mastery of the rules of English grammar, and many relied on her to proofread their letters. After the death of her husband in 1978, Terry set up a Montclair chapter of THEOS, a nationwide non-denominational support group for widowed men and women. She ran the group for approximately ten years and created friendships from that work that lasted until her death. She was also involved with the Friends of Barnet and the Montclair Fine Arts Festival.
Terry was predeceased in death by her husband, Donald Pounds, her son Richard, her beloved companions, Arthur Jones and Fred Berinato, and her sisters Lucy and Claire. She is survived by her son Donald Pounds and his companion Patrice Holtzer, daughter Mary Pounds Sisler, daughter-in-law Bette Pounds, sons James Pounds (Bethany) and Thomas Pounds (Liljana), daughter Virginia Pounds, sons Michael Pounds (Catherine) and John Pounds. She was the proud grandmother of sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Katy, Austin, Colleen, Connor, Jordan, Jason, Jeremy, Natalie, Anika, Evan, Noah, Ben, Eli, Max, Harper and Nolan; Scarlett, Emma, Carson, Peyton and Wesley. She is also survived by a large extended family and countless friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 9 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 30 N. Fullerton Ave., Montclair, NJ 07042, followed by interment of ashes at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Upper Montclair.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terry’s name to The Release Recovery Foundation at: https://donate.hakuapp.com/donations/new?fundraising_effort=in-loving-memory-of-therese-terry-pounds.

Obituary For Tessa Nicole Hart
Tessa Nicole Hart, 13, of Toledo, OH passed away on February 6, 2024, at the Toledo Hospital, Toledo, OH. She was born on October 15, 2010, to her parents, Tiffany Hart and Nicholas Wurm.
Tess was wise beyond her years. From a young age, she had an extensive vocabulary. Her ability to make others laugh was like no other. She was often referred to as the star or the actress of the family; her love for acting and performing started at a young age.
Tess loved having Friday movie nights and watching her favorite shows with her mom. They spent so much time baking and creating many family traditions together.
Tess was a brilliant artist from a young age painting and crafting. As she grew older, she loved making mini figures, sewing, costume making, drawing and painting. Tess always carried a sketchbook with her everywhere she went. Tess had an incredible gift to create art out of recycled items. She found that anything could be created into a piece of art. There was not one form of art that she did not love.
Tess shared her love of music with everyone but especially her Squishy. They enjoyed listening to records together and talking about music. You could often find Tess with her headphones on and a sketchbook in hand. Tessa loved different genres of music, especially the 80’s.
Tess had a uniqueness about her. She had an eccentric fashion style and loved to express herself. Tess loved attending school at the Toledo School of the Arts and meeting many friends. She deeply cherished her group of best friends. She enjoyed many school dances, sleepovers and birthday parties with them. Tess participated in after school clubs, but D&D was her favorite. She was proud to have been promoted into Acting III and was looking forward to continuing this next school year. Tess had many wonderful things to say about all of her teachers, but her favorite class was science taught by Mr. Baehr.
Tess was an avid swimmer and always looked forward to the summer. Tess wanted to pursue photography and had aspirations of attending NYU. The dream of attending NYU grew with her after visiting NYC last year with her family. Tess was a major advocate for the LGBTQIA community and supported everyone being their true self. Tess showed kindness to everyone she met.
Tessa is survived by her mother, Tiffany Hart; Father, Nicholas Wurm; Grandparents, Tina Walsh, James (Annette) Hart, Wesley (Joann) Wurm, Brenda (Gary) Miller; Aunts, Brittani Hart, Mallory (Steven) Nguyen, Taytum Wash, Sarah Fishler Uncles, Treven Walsh, Gunther Wurm, Josh (Jamie) Wurm; and many cousins, great aunts, great uncles, and great-grandparents. She was preceded in death by her Grandfather, “Squishy” Trevor Walsh.
The family will welcome visitors Friday, February 16, 2024, from 12:30 to 3:30 PM at the Walker Funeral Home – Oregon Chapel, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, OH, where an informal time of sharing will begin at 2:30 PM.
