Therese ‘Terry’ Pounds (Joiner): 1927-2024

Therese “Terry” Pounds (Joiner), 97, of Montclair, NJ died peacefully surrounded by family at Mountainside Hospital on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, Terry was born a ‘survivor,’ having lost her mother who died soon after her birth in 1927 in New York City. She subsequently lived all over the world as a self-described “army brat” after her father, Colonel Talley Dosier Joiner, remarried and reclaimed “his little Therese” from her aunts who raised her until she was six. After graduating from Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ, Terry briefly attended college at Trinity, DC, then decided to go to Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in NJ. The skills she learned there served her well at her first secretarial jobs in Manhattan, then later at Montclair Kimberly Academy in Montclair where she worked for almost twenty years in the Office of External Affairs. She was proud of her mastery of the rules of English grammar, and many relied on her to proofread their letters. After the death of her husband in 1978, Terry set up a Montclair chapter of THEOS, a nationwide non-denominational support group for widowed men and women. She ran the group for approximately ten years and created friendships from that work that lasted until her death. She was also involved with the Friends of Barnet and the Montclair Fine Arts Festival.

Terry was predeceased in death by her husband, Donald Pounds, her son Richard, her beloved companions, Arthur Jones and Fred Berinato, and her sisters Lucy and Claire. She is survived by her son Donald Pounds and his companion Patrice Holtzer, daughter Mary Pounds Sisler, daughter-in-law Bette Pounds, sons James Pounds (Bethany) and Thomas Pounds (Liljana), daughter Virginia Pounds, sons Michael Pounds (Catherine) and John Pounds. She was the proud grandmother of sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Katy, Austin, Colleen, Connor, Jordan, Jason, Jeremy, Natalie, Anika, Evan, Noah, Ben, Eli, Max, Harper and Nolan; Scarlett, Emma, Carson, Peyton and Wesley. She is also survived by a large extended family and countless friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 9 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 30 N. Fullerton Ave., Montclair, NJ 07042, followed by interment of ashes at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Upper Montclair.

Obituary For Roberta "Bobbi" Kirkman

Roberta Jean Kirkman, affectionately known as Bobbi, was born on August 19, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, to her loving parents Robert Rose and Mary Pontius. She departed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at home in Bowling Green, Ohio on February 23, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Bobbi's journey began in Toledo, where she graduated from Macomber – Whitney Cosmetology in 1963. She went on to a fulfilling career as a cosmetologist, bringing joy to her clients through her skill and creativity. Later in life, Bobbi transitioned to various roles, including working at Gymnastics International and Uptime Power Conversion Services serving as a secretary. She dedicated many years of service to the US Postal Service, retiring in 2010 after a successful career as a mail carrier.

Throughout her life, Bobbi embraced adventure and shared countless unforgettable moments with her beloved husband Joe. Together, they explored all 50 states, indulging in their shared love of golf along the way. One memorable bucket list item they checked off was visiting Niagara Falls, where they enjoyed a boat ride under the falls. Bobbi's passion for life extended beyond travel; she actively participated in community activities, including membership in Saint John XXIII Catholic Church, the Eagles, and various golf leagues. Her competitive spirit shone brightly as she achieved notable victories, including winning the Ma and Pa Bowling League, which earned her a well-deserved trip to Hawaii.

An accomplished cook, Bobbi delighted in preparing meals for her family and friends, who fondly remember her delicious creations. She found joy in simple pleasures, from cheering on the University of Michigan Wolverines to savoring chocolates and indulging in all varieties of ice cream. Bobbi's favorite color, purple, reflected her vibrant personality and zest for life.

Above all, Bobbi cherished moments spent with her family, attending her children and grandchildren's sporting events and school activities. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose love knew no bounds. Bobbi's kindness, generosity, and unwavering support touched the lives of all who knew her. She especially treasured her weekly Mexican restaurant date nights with her beloved husband, Joe, creating cherished memories together over their shared love for good food and each other.

Bobbi is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Rose, her brother, James Rose, and sister, Mary Kaminski. She is survived by her brother, Howard (Pat) Rose, her loving husband, Joseph Kirkman Sr., her beloved dog, Bear of 13 years, their daughters, Christina (Bill) Seiple and Kimberly (Robert) Seeberger, sons, Joseph Jr. (Veronica) and James Kirkman, along with 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and cherished family friends John (Esther) Copobianco.

In honoring Bobbi's memory, let us celebrate her life, legacy, and the profound impact she made on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts.

Family and friends are invited to visit and share memories of Bobbi from 3-8 pm. Tuesday February 27, 2024, at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg Ohio. Wednesday, February 28, there will be visitation from 9:30-10:30 am followed immediately by mass at Saint John XXIII Catholic Church, 24250 N. Dixie Highway, Perrysburg, Ohio. Burial will be held at New Belleville Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.
