Therese ‘Terry’ Pounds (Joiner): 1927-2024

Therese “Terry” Pounds (Joiner), 97, of Montclair, NJ died peacefully surrounded by family at Mountainside Hospital on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, Terry was born a ‘survivor,’ having lost her mother who died soon after her birth in 1927 in New York City. She subsequently lived all over the world as a self-described “army brat” after her father, Colonel Talley Dosier Joiner, remarried and reclaimed “his little Therese” from her aunts who raised her until she was six. After graduating from Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ, Terry briefly attended college at Trinity, DC, then decided to go to Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in NJ. The skills she learned there served her well at her first secretarial jobs in Manhattan, then later at Montclair Kimberly Academy in Montclair where she worked for almost twenty years in the Office of External Affairs. She was proud of her mastery of the rules of English grammar, and many relied on her to proofread their letters. After the death of her husband in 1978, Terry set up a Montclair chapter of THEOS, a nationwide non-denominational support group for widowed men and women. She ran the group for approximately ten years and created friendships from that work that lasted until her death. She was also involved with the Friends of Barnet and the Montclair Fine Arts Festival.

Terry was predeceased in death by her husband, Donald Pounds, her son Richard, her beloved companions, Arthur Jones and Fred Berinato, and her sisters Lucy and Claire. She is survived by her son Donald Pounds and his companion Patrice Holtzer, daughter Mary Pounds Sisler, daughter-in-law Bette Pounds, sons James Pounds (Bethany) and Thomas Pounds (Liljana), daughter Virginia Pounds, sons Michael Pounds (Catherine) and John Pounds. She was the proud grandmother of sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Katy, Austin, Colleen, Connor, Jordan, Jason, Jeremy, Natalie, Anika, Evan, Noah, Ben, Eli, Max, Harper and Nolan; Scarlett, Emma, Carson, Peyton and Wesley. She is also survived by a large extended family and countless friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 9 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 30 N. Fullerton Ave., Montclair, NJ 07042, followed by interment of ashes at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Upper Montclair.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terry’s name to The Release Recovery Foundation at: https://donate.hakuapp.com/donations/new?fundraising_effort=in-loving-memory-of-therese-terry-pounds.

Obituary For Robert E. Hanf

Robert "Bob" Hanf, 79, passed into heaven peacefully on Friday, November 14th at home surrounded by his family after a short but courageous fight with MDS. Bob was born on 10/22/1946 in Toledo, Ohio to Rowland and Evelyn Hanf. Bob started dating the love of his life, Delores, at age 13 and they later married in 1968.

After graduating from Bowsher High School, Bob attended the University of Toledo and graduated in 1970 with a degree in Pharmacy, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, who also graduated from The University of Toledo in Pharmacy.

After starting his career at his family's pharmacy, LM Hanf & Sons Drugs he and his wife opened their own pharmacy, Hanf's Heatherdowns Pharmacy, earning a reputation for taking excellent care of patients. After selling the pharmacy, Bob worked at Collins & Parker Pharmacy, started the Churchill's Pharmacy in Perrysburg and helped to found the pharmacy buying group for Spartan foods. He later worked for Mercy Health, managing the outpatient pharmacies before retiring and returning to retail pharmacy at the Churchill’s Pharmacy in Perrysburg a couple days a month.

Bob was very proud of being a 3rd generation pharmacist and also a pharmacy owner just like his father and grandfather. The Hanf family owned pharmacies in Toledo continuously from 1918-1988. Bob loved being a pharmacist and took pride in providing personalized and compassionate care to all of his patients.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Louis Hanf and sister-in-law, Shirl Keener. He is survived by his cherished wife of 57 years, Delores, children, Lauryl Kristufek (Don), Michael Hanf, and Jennifer Keys (John), his eight grandchildren “kiddos”, Andrew (Lily), Lucas, Taylor, Tyler (Emily), Allison, Bradley, Evelyn and Merida, sister-in-laws, Rosella Hanf and Jean Behnfeldt, and brother-in-laws, Nick Behnfeldt and Milt Keener.

Bob loved camping, boating, ice cream, trips to the cottage but most of all his family. Bob accomplished so much in life, both professionally and personally, but would never boast or take credit. Instead, he would take any time you had to tell you how amazing his wife was or how proud he was of his kids and grandkids and all the things they were doing.

Anyone that met Bob would remember his wonderful stories of the old days and talking with Bob was like a history lesson of Toledo. His stories were a gift to all that knew him. Bob never forgot a name and found someone he knew no matter where, or how far from home he was.

He always looked sharp, with perfectly combed hair even during his final days. Truly, a life well-lived! We will always love you more, and you'll live on forever in our hearts.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11th at Newcomer Funeral Home at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. from 2-7pm. A service will begin at 7pm where his children and grandchildren will share precious memories. Other family and friends are invited to share memories as well. The family wishes any donations be made to either Cherry Street Mission or St. Jude in memory of Robert E. Hanf.
